ROOT TO SUCCESS: Captain Joe leads England to victory in India
Joe Root's tremendous double century in the first innings played a pivotal part in England beating India on their own soil in the first test of the series.
The skipper hit a score of 218 in his first stint at the crease to put the visitors in command of the opening match.
He got the 200 mark in style hitting a six while on 195 to record double century on what was his 100th test match for England.
Root's batting has been the story of the winter for England as he also hit 228 and 186 against Sri Lanka in their last series.
The match was ended by some fantastic bowling from James Anderson and Jack Leach as they combined for seven wickets in the final innings.
It was a 227-run defeat for India on their own soil despite a rally from captain Virat Kohli.
The pitch in India was less brutal than before as the home team attempt to win games with less of an advantage on the wicket.
But England took that and ran away with the first test.
The second test begins on Saturday 13th February.
