DONE DEAL: Kyril Louis-Dreyfus is the owner of Sunderland AFC

Kyril Louis-Dreyfus has been confirmed as the new owner of Sunderland AFC.

He becomes the youngest chairman in English football after the English football league (EFL) confirmed the deal.

The 23-year-old had agreed on a deal to take control of the club in December.

However, the delay in this confirmation was due to the longer-than-anticipated wait for the EFL to give him the green light.

Now-former owner Stewart Donald does remain a minority shareholder after this completion.

He did confirm though that Sunderland are now debt-free thanks to this takeover.

First words

Louis-Dreyfus has spoken after completing the deal to buy the club, giving his thought's for the future.

His first quote as the owner was this: "I am proud to become a custodian of this esteemed institution, but I also recognise the significant responsibility that comes with it.

"I am confident that together we can weather the present storm and put solid foundations in place to bring sustainable and long-term success to the club."

Sunderland have had issues with owners in the past and they'll hope this time is different.

The club are seventh in League One at the time of writing.

But they do have a Wembley trip on their calendar for the final of the Papa John's EFL Trophy.

Kyril Louis-Drefus

Kyril is the son of Margarita Louis-Dreyfus - a Russian-born billionaire businesswoman.

His dad, Robert, passed away in 2009 after a battle with leukemia.

He has a twin brother - Maurice - who is expected to be named a director.

However, that is subject to clearance by the EFL.

Their family sold French side Olympique Marseille to former Los Angeles Dodgers owners Frank McCourt in 2016 for €45million.

They have experience of running a football club previously then it seems.

It could prove a timely boost for Lee Johnson's side if they gain promotion and potentially have money to spend to continue their ascent.
