FIGHTING DEPORTATION: A chef’s decade long fight to remain in the UK after being wrongfully accused as a sex offender
A chef from Bangladesh who was living in Cardiff is fighting deportation from the UK after he was incorrectly labelled a sex offender by the Home Office. Saiful Islam came to the UK in 2003, however a mixing up of files linked him to three other people. This resulted in the connection of a a criminal conviction to his name.
The Home office have since apologised and offered to pay Mr Islam compensation, however in 2019, a court rejected his right to remain in he UK, despite the mistakes made by the Home Office.
Local TV has asked the home office for comment and despite them confirming that three profiles were mistaklenly attached to mr islams name, they said that they were unable to comment on an ongoing legal proceeding.
We spoke with Mr Islam one year ago before lockdown, and decided to speak with him twelve months later to hear how his fight to remain in the UK is going during the global pandemic.
