MUST WIN: Wrexham playoff hopes on the line against Stockport County

Wrexham "must-win" against Stockport County if they want to finish in the National League playoff places.

Dean Keates's side have lost to both Notts County and Torquay United in recent weeks. Both of which are rivals for the top seven.

It's seen Wrexham drop down to eighth in the table although they are level on points with Halifax in seventh.

Five points separate the two teams in the table before kick-off and Keates will want to close that gap.

Only 11 games remain for Wrexham this season, with a promotion bonus reportedly on offer.

Wrexham will be banking on being a playoff team to go up, so a win against Stockport is essential.

Ponticelli is miss Wrexham's game with Stockport but might be back for big playoff clash with Halifax

Jordan Ponticelli will be unavailable for the game against Stockport County after an injury in their defeat against Notts County.

His injury isn't as bad as first feared, however, and he may return to the side for the trip to Halifax Town according to Keates.

"[Ponticelli's] injury is not as bad as we first thought,” the Wrexham boss said.

"This weekend might be too soon. I would like to think he might be back within the next seven to 10 days as of Friday."

Top scorer Kwame Thomas is also absent after rupturing his Achilles and faces a long time out of action.

Keates has had two free agents training with the Wrexham team this week ahead of the clash with Stockport.

He hopes to add to his attacking options with these players before Saturday.

Keates said: "I have got two coming in to train with us to have a look at. I am optimistic that we will have at least one by the weekend.

"It has to be the right character. I am aware of a few more, two are coming in and we will see how they develop over the course of the next few days.

"Fortunately enough they have played in the league so there are a couple of games I can look back at.

He was eager to not raise expectations too much though. He added: "You are asking a lot for them to come in and see if they can go straight away for 90 minutes."
