LOCAL ELECTIONS AHEAD: Here’s all you need to know ahead of Thursday 6th May’s polling day

They were delayed due to the pandemic, but now the date has been locked in. Thursday 6th May will see roughly forty eight million people elect nearly five thousand positions of power.

From local councillors, to MS’s in the Welsh Senedd, Police and crime commissioners and mayors - here’s all you need to know...

Chloe Smith is the constitution minister and essentially assists in elections and how they run - as she explained to Simple Politics, work has been taking place to ensure the elections will be safe as restrictions continue to ease.

According to polling by the university of Essex, coronavirus is the number one election issue - which is hardly surprising - with those surveyed in the North West and North East of England suggesting their struggles with mental health have been accelerated by the pandemic.

Voters in Wales will be electing members to its Senedd, whilst in England its local councils seats up for grabs.

Police and crime commissioners will also be elected across England and Wales, with Metro Mayors and a Hartlepool by election for its MP also thrown into the mix

To find out what’s happening where you are, and to see who’s standing - head to your local tv channel’s site, and search ‘election’
