GOING THE DISTANCE: Cardiff man cycles 1,000 miles for charity over the course of Ramadan

Elhadi Seklani is cycling 1,000 miles across Cardiff and South Wales in aid of Human Appeal’s Ramadan projects
Elhadi Seklani has always considered himself a charitable guy, and like millions of Muslims across the UK was planning to donate to charity this Ramadan. But when a friend from Manchester-based humanitarian charity Human Appeal suggested a Ramadan challenge, he was more than ready to go one step further.
A keen cyclist, Elhadi is cycling 1,000 miles over the course of Ramadan, in an effort to raise £5,000 for Human Appeal’s projects during the Holy Month. As of Monday 3rd May he’s nearly 550 miles in, and on track to achieve his goal.
So far during Ramadan, Human Appeal has distributed hundreds of food parcels across the UK to vulnerable families, victims of domestic violence and refugees, and thousands more in Somalia, Yemen, Pakistan, Palestine, Iraq, Bangladesh and Syria, where families are in desperate need of long-lasting food to ensure they can fast safely throughout Ramadan. The charity has also been providing freshly cooked hot iftar meals, so that the people most in need can break their fast properly and be nourished for the next day.
“I was actually planning on just donating as I usually would this Ramadan, but when a friend who volunteers for Human Appeal put the challenge to me, how could I say no?
“I love cycling, so I’m enjoying getting out and about, and if I can raise thousands of pounds to save lives around the world while I do it then it’s even better.
“With everything that’s going on in the world, I hope people will be more generous than ever this Ramadan, in donating and getting involved with charities like Human Appeal who are making a real difference to people’s lives.”
