HALL OF FAME: Roy Keane added to the list after fans vote

Manchester United legend Roy Keane has been added to the Premier League hall of fame, following ex-teammate Eric Cantona into the newly-formed institution.

Roy Keane won seven league titles whilst at Manchester United, as well as four FA Cups and a Champions League. He also joins former Newcastle, Southampton and Blackburn Rovers striker Alan Shearer and Arsenal forward Thierry Henry in the hall of fame.

His ex-teammate Eric Cantona was announced as the third member of the hall of fame. Cantona and Keane were inducted after winning a public vote from a 23-man shortlist.

Premier League winner

Roy Keane made 366 appearances in the Premier League spending the best part of 13 seasons at Manchester United after joining from Nottingham Forest in 1993.

The Irishman scored 39 goals and supplied 33 assists whilst helping United to an astonishing 7 Premier League titles.

On the news of his induction, Keane said, "I feel very lucky to be inducted but I’ve only been inducted because of the players I’ve played with.”

Keane was a very passionate player and stood out with his leadership skills and his drive to win. Occasionally, this could land him in hot water with referees and he collected 69 yellow cards and 7 red cards during his Premier League career.

This included a particularly nasty incident in which he injured Manchester City’s Alf-Inge Haaland with a horrible tackle. Keane admitted in an autobiography in 2021 that ‘I did want to nail him and let him know what was happening.’

His career at Manchester United also ended in controversial circumstances as Keane criticised his teammates after a 4-1 defeat to Middlesbrough in 2005. This led to a contract termination and a move to Celtic.

Nevertheless, fans clearly still regard him as an icon and have voted Manchester United legend Roy Keane as the fourth member into the Premier League’s hall of fame.
