SLUGGISH: Cavani stunner cancelled out as fans make Old Trafford return
A superb strike from Edinson Cavani was not enough for Manchester United to secure all three points as they drew with already relegated Fulham.
Supporters returned to Old Trafford for the first time since last March and the 10,000 strong crowd were treated to a wonderful piece of skill 15 minutes in.
Cavani latched on to a loose ball and lifted it over Alphonso Areola with a perfectly executed chip, and despite VAR reviewing the goal for a potential offside, the goal was eventually given.
For a long time it looked like being the winner as United dominated large periods of the game but couldn’t find that crucial second goal.
Joe Bryan equalised for the visitors with just 15 minutes remaining when he headed home his first goal of the season at the far post, meaning United have failed to win any of their last three home games.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was full of praise for Cavani post-match: "I think it might be a wake-up call because we tried to do the fancy stuff - the flicks, the extraordinary things, the things that pleased the fans,” he said.
"That's not what we're about. We should be more efficient.
"Have a look at Cavani, have a look at how he plays the game. Every single one of us look at him. Back tackles, runs, scores - there's no fluff. And we can't have fluff in a game of football."
United face Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday in their final league game of the season before travelling to Gdansk for the Europa League Final.
