NEWS ROUNDUP: NHS Backlog a ‘gargantuan task’
The new health minister of Wales Eluned Morgan has said that she is facing a gargantuan task of tackling the welsh nhs waiting list with the welsh government announcing an initial £100m to deal with the backlog. Latest figures estimate that an equivilant of 18% of the welsh population are waiting for some form of planned treatment.
First minister Mark Drakeford has said that the coronavirus variant which was first identified in India could be 50% more transmissabkle than the type currently dominant in the UK. Wales has reported 25 cases of the new vairent which are primariliy in urban centres such as Swansea, Cardiff and Newport.
The Met Office weather warning which will run until 9pm on friday night is to cover most of Wales. The yellow be aware warning is anticipating 60 mph winds which could lead to disruption and potential damage.
