BIG BID: Manchester City bid £100m for Kane according to reports
PA - Nick Potts
Premier League champions Manchester City bid £100m for Harry Kane, according to reports by Fabrizio Romano and Sky Sports.
Kane, who is thought to be open to a move away from his boyhood club Tottenham Hotspur, scored 23 goals and got 14 assists in the Premier League in 2020/21. However, Spurs could only limp to a 7th placed finish to miss out on qualifying for the Champions League.
Kane is yet to win a major trophy in his career and, given that Manchester City have won three Premier League titles in four years, it is certainly a move that is possible. On the other hand, the England captain has a contract that runs until 2024 and Spurs are thought to value him higher. Their chairman, Daniel Levy, is a notoriously tough negotiator so it is unlikely that he will accept this initial bid.
Fabrizio Romano, the journalist who broke the news, has made a name for himself over the last couple of years as a reliable source for transfer stories.
In a tweet, he said that City bid £100m for Kane and are willing to include some of their players in the deal with the likes of Raheem Sterling, Gabriel Jesus and Aymeric Laporte ‘among the names’.
He also said that nothing will be decided until after the Euros as Kane looks to focus on helping England against the Czech Republic after Gareth Southgate confirmed he would start despite an underwhelming start to the tournament.
