GAME TO REMEMBER: Best matches from EURO 2020

From England's run to the final alone, Three Lions fans will have plenty of matches to remember from EURO 2020.

The final may have ended in defeat, but along the way, Gareth Southgate's side put themselves in English football folklore.

A 2-0 victory over Germany got the country actually believing football was coming home. In the group stages, a draw with Scotland was sandwiched between two wins.

Then, a trip to Rome to face Ukraine awaited, where England put four goals past Andriy Shevchenko's side in arguably their best game of the tournament.

Add to the list a come-from-behind victory against Denmark, and you see there are many matches available to pick England's best at EURO 2020.

The tournament as a whole cooked up some barnstormers. The Netherlands beat Ukraine 3-2 after the Ukrainian's came from 2-0 down to equalise. Group F's final day had twists and turns galore.

However, there's one day of football at EURO 2020 that sticks out above the rest of the matches.

It was Monday 28th June 2021 and the third day of last 16 action had two games on the schedule.

Copenhagen and then Bucharest were the venues for what turned out to be two of the best games at the European Championships.

It began with Croatia against Spain, and the Spaniards were 3-1 up after 77 minutes and it looked like game over.

Spain were 1-0 down after a freak own goal from Pedri's pass back was missed by Unai Simon.

Cesar Azpilicueta and Ferran Torres would put Spain in control with the second half coming to a close.

However, Mislav Orsic and Mario Pasalic had other ideas as they sent the game to extra time.

Spain would go on to win in extra time as Alvaro Morata and Mikel Oyarzabal both scored to make it 5-3.

You barely had a chance to catch your breath before France and Switzerland played out another classic.

It followed a similar pattern to the prior game, and France also led 3-1 before the Swiss sent it to extra time.

This game, however, went to penalties and Switzerland knocked out the reigning World Cup champions to advance.

Those matches were not just EURO 2020 classics, but some of the best the European Championships have ever seen.
