OUTGOING MIDFIELDER: Liverpool sell Marko Grujic to Porto
PA - Nick Potts
Liverpool sell Marko Grujic to Porto, ending the Serbian’s five year spell at Anfield in which he never broke into the first team.
The 25 year-old midfielder was Jurgen Klopp’s first signing back in 2016, joining from Red Star Belgrade for £5.1 million. However, Grujic failed to make an impression at Liverpool and could only manage 16 first team appearances and spent time on own at the likes of Cardiff City and Hertha Berlin.
Last season, he was on loan at Porto and made 39 appearances for the Portuguese giants and featured in their run to the Champions League quarter-finals. They have now paid £10.5 million for Grujic with Liverpool also agreeing a 10% sell-on clause.
On the decision by Liverpool to sell Marko Grujic, the club said on their official website: “The Serbia international returns to the Portuguese club after making 39 appearances and scoring two goals during a loan spell in 2020-21.”
“Grujic joined up with Klopp’s squad for this month’s pre-season training camp in Austria and will now bid farewell to link up with Porto permanently.
“Everyone at Liverpool FC thanks Marko for his contributions to the club and wishes him the best in his future career.”
